AXA is a French Multinational insurance firm and currently one of the largest insurance companies in the world. The initial founders chose the name as they felt that anybody in the world would comfortably pronounce it. AXA Advisors traces its origin way back in 1816 when it was founded and was known as The Ancienne Mutuelle. It went on changing its name after buying firms over the years. It bought Drouot Group in 1982, The Equitable in 1991, UAP in 1996, Guardian Royal Exchange in 1999, Sun Life & Provincial Holdings in 2000, and Winterthur Group in 2006.
